Stephen Bittel: A billionaire, politician and yachtsman

Stephen Bittel is a self-made billionaire. He got his start as a general contractor for an apartment development company, eventually becoming the company’s president and CEO. In 2004 he sold the company to Trammell Crow Company and became vice-chairman of that organization. After the sale, he dove into politics and won the election as national co-chairman of President Barack Obama’s 2008 campaign fundraising committee in Florida.

Stephen then went on to become State Senator followed by the chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners where he spearheaded many important projects including economic growth, affordable housing, public safety, and education initiatives among many others! With all of this tying him down, he never lost sight of his dream of owning an MLS franchise.

The self-made billionaire is now the owner of an MLS franchise, thanks to a historic victory in the Florida state legislature!

Stephen led efforts to secure approval for public financing of $80 million towards the $150 million building that will house the team. In negotiations, he agreed to put up $80 million towards the construction costs as well as cover any cost overruns and operating costs for the first three years of operation with a spokesperson from his organization stating he expects those costs will be recouped within 10 years.

Stephen Bittel is a man of the people and he always has been that way. He was raised by an immigrant couple and spent his summers working in their family gas station as a child to help contribute to household income. After graduating from high school, he served as a tool-and-die apprentice for several years before getting his business degree in 1983. A few years after that, he founded his own construction company which was fittingly called IBC Construction Management.

Stephen Bittel is a great example of what it means to be a hard-working and determined person who makes their dreams become a reality!
